I AIN'T DUMB
Premiered at the Belgrade Theatre Coventry, February 2022

This hard-hitting play sees a proudly inclusive tough inner-city Coventry school explode into a rapidly escalating identity war. Sex secrets, hip-hop and hope fight for centre stage in this vibrant, in-yer-face, real talk rollercoaster.

Inspired by true events from queer playwright, Tom Wright’s own eventful education in a state school in Coventry - alongside Black British director, Rikkie Beadle-Blair (MBE)'s experience of institutional racism - this frank, funny and daring piece puts queer characters, working-class characters and characters of colour centre at it’s heart, whilst exploring the nuanced intersections between sexuality, race and class.
